Stalking isn't always as simple as Googling or searching on Facebook.
The internet is so resourceful. If you're looking for information on someone, don't give up just because a simple Google search or Facebook search doesn't give you want you want.
This girl left her wallet at a cafe. It basically only had her ID and a piece of paper with her nickname. I was with Jessica and we didn't want to leave it at the cafe because who knows what other people would do with it, and who knows if that girl would even think to look for it there.
Googling her full name yielded nothing. Facebook, nothing. Myspace, nothing. Then I tried Facebook with her nickname, and that worked, but her whole profile was privatized. I was, however, able to see her networks, which was only her high school, and confirmed that the school is in the same city stated on her ID, so I messaged her, but I didn't stop there. I wanted to find her right away because she had just flown in from out of the state a day ago (her boarding ticket was in her wallet), so she definitely needs her ID back to fly back home after this long weekend.
I googled her address on her ID, looking for a contact. It turned out that the house (a BIG house) was up for sale, but I thought, maybe it's an old listing? I searched whitepages.com with that address and found a phone number attached to it. I called it but the number had been disconnected, so that confirmed that they had moved.
What now? I thought.
*Light bulb*
I started searching for family members of her's on the web, so instead of searching "full name + city", I searched "last name + city". I was able to find her mother, or at least I assumed she was her mother, and from some digging, I found out that they moved out of the state. Actually, I pretty much know their life story now. Ha! I found her mother's LinkedIn profile and other articles about her, but none had her contact. I found her mother's work number and dialed it even though it was just about midnight (Friday night/Saturday morning) already, and of course it went to a voicemail - her assistant's voicemail. I figured there was no point in leaving a voicemail since it probably wouldn't get checked until the weekend is over, and by then it would be too late because the girl needs to fly back home. I need to find her now!
That's when I went back to whitepages.com. I now had a new name - the mother's name - and the new city that they lived in. It was past midnight and they were probably asleep, but a missing wallet is important, especially for a traveler, so I called anyway. It was her mother after all, and I'm guessing I woke her and her husband up because I talked to both of them on the phone.
Turns out the girl is staying just a few minutes away from me.
Happy 4th of July everyone! Stay safe!

Your awesome Jonas. If you ever Fine my wallet. Please Dont forget to put some money in it also Then I would love you forever. LOL
Oh wow, that was really nice of you to go through all that trouble just to give a girl her wallet back. If I ever lose my wallet I hope you're the one that finds it :) otherwise I don't think there's a very high chance of me getting it back.
Happy 4th of July to you as well!
good stuff. the internet is only as resourceful as someone like you can make it. i know plenty of people that don't know how to use it correctly.
Wow. That's really nice of you, but it just creeped me out so badly that anyone with half a brain could do this...
wowwww ahaha
What a hero :)
i always find wallets. no joke.
one time i found one in a wal-mart shopping cart. it was a really cool leather one. it had a buisness card inside and i called them to come get it..
another time i was walking to my job (babysitting) and i found one on the side walk. another buisness card. it was full of buisness credit cards. numbers and a $20. i called them. they came and picked it up and and gave me a $100! my dad said i just saved them a ton of trouble they would have had to cancel all those cards. and someone woulda had a ton of information.
another time. i was out walking. with the kids i was babysitting. and my son. and i saw something on the ground. some kind of green card. with like a thumb print on the back. then as i kept walking i picked up about twenty things. that had to have come from his wallet or something. dont know how they got scattered on the sidewalk and street. we walked up to the police station and gave it all to them.
HAhah this is one of the best 'ninja' story I've heard! I think it's time you switch careers?!?!
Did you ever tell them what you went thru? Or maybe... they just googled your name and are reading ur post right now.
wow, if only everyone lost their personal belongings to saints like you!
while extremely impressive, you're kinda scaring me. LOL
Whoa...that's both impressive and kinda creepy. But I'm glad you got her wallet back to her, I'm sure she's happy to have it!
Does that mean she got her wallet back? In a way, it's kind of scary what we can find out about a person on the internet, but it's also great that you were able to return her wallet. I'm not so sure many other people would have been that persistent.
batman, eat your heart out.

@IfonEarth - i would have just left the wallet at the cafe after reaching a dead end after facebook, but since she was an out of towner and definitely needed her ID to get back home, i had to make sure she got her wallet back.
@Fufuberi - after i returned the wallet, i told her the crazy story i went through and how i ended up finding her parents. it was funny. we are actually facebook friends now haha.
@kkraziemoonn - i think it's great that you've had so many opportunities to help people. it's better these situations happened to you than to others who are more selfish.
The girl was lucky to have a man with good intentions (and the much-needed persistence!) find the wallet.
Great job with that! I admire all that work you put in. Got to learn from you.
so did you return her wallet? lol
Whoa, what a small world!
